Climbing Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan stands at 3776 metres high. The dormant volcanic mountain soars from the ground, standing by its lonesome, daring the 400,000 people who attempt to climb each year to reach the summit to see the first rays of light, streak from the clouds to light up the day.

The main  reason we traveled to Aomori prefecture wasn’t for Lake Towada, which we wrote about in our last post, but to hike the 14 kilometre track along the Oirase river. This is the only river draining Lake Towada and is the most popular tourist spot in the prefecture. Continue reading “A guide to hiking Oirase River.”

Summer time in Osaka, Yodogawa Fireworks

yodogawa fireworks

Summertime in Japan can be hot and humid and this year temperatures soared to extreme highs making it nearly unbearable to live in. As well as the extreme heatwave Japan was hit by strong typhoons with the eye of the typhoon being Kobe, the city I live in. There’s also been strong earthquakes and torrential rainfall throughout the Kansai area, causing some anxious times over the Summer.

Cairns vs Port Douglas which is better

image

Cairns is the more renown city  of the two, especially with international travellers as afterall it is the city with the airport, so a lot of travellers fly into and out of the country.  Port Douglas though is only an hour away on one of the most beautiful coastal drives in the country.

We have been to Cairns a few times as I usually fly home with Jetstar from Osaka to Sydney via Cairns but have only stayed a day or two each time. I was there in March last year for a couple of days. We have only been to Port Douglas once in which we stayed five days.

Which city do we like best, where would we recommend you to holiday between the two if you only had to choose one. Continue reading to  see which we think is the best.   Continue reading “Cairns vs Port Douglas which is better”

The best beach in Australia, Whitehaven Beach

image.jpg

Australian beaches are world class and  the best in my opinion  is Whitehaven Beach which regularly ranks in the best beaches in the world when the travel magazines release their top 10’s  each year but unless you’re staying on Hamilton island or are driving along the east coast it takes a bit of strategy to be able to visit, especially if you have to catch a flight from Cairns in three days time like I had to. Cairns is an all night bus ride on the Greyhound service. Continue reading “The best beach in Australia, Whitehaven Beach”

How to spend 24 hours in Sydney

image

Sydney is a city which I could happily spend a week at a time and still have things to do. However not everyone can spend that amount of time in Sydney as many people use the city for a quick stopover on the way to another international destination or if they are also traveling to another destination in Australia. I recently did this when I was on my way to the Whitsundays. I had 24 hours in Sydney and I was just happy to stay around the city but then I thought if this was someone’s first time to Sydney and they only had a day then what would I recommend for them to do.

This is our guide to how to spend 24 hours in Sydney. Continue reading “How to spend 24 hours in Sydney”

image

Feeling hungry while you are in Merimbula and don’t know where to eat then hopefully this guide can help you decide where to have a feed. Merimbula for its size has a plethora of restaurants and cafes and these are some of the places which we have eaten at over the years in which we have been coming here.  Enjoy and bon appetite.

 Best cafes for brunch

You are on holiday, there’s no need to wake up early and there’s no better thing to wake up and go out for hearty meal in the middle of the morning when you have all the free time you need to relax sip on a coffee while eating some great food, for me usually eggs.
